Missing DVD-R/CD-RW

My DVD/CD-Rom seems to be missing!! When I look in "My Computer", everything
else is visible and correct, but it skips from D to F (partioned drive). But
when I look in Device Manager, my DVD/CD drive is visible and apparently
functioning properly. But it doesn't recoginize anything I put in, won't run
anything from Run... I've tried to uninstall/re-install driver,
troubleshooter, link from earlier post (twice) ...

Can anyone help me?

(If it matters, I know it's something I did, I'm just not sure what or
where. I was trying to install software that wouldn't load properly, and in
troublshooting that, I changed the location, or path, or something. Messing
with stuff I don't really understand ...)
 
I've run that link twice and done the registry edit, and still nothing!!

Anthing else? Please!!
