Missing drives G, H & I

I have Windows XP. I should have drives A, and C-I, but only A, C, D & E are
currently visible and accessible. Drives H & I are the ones I used for my
digital camera's smart cards. I've re-booted, re-started, and done everything
I can think of to make these drives re-appear, with no luck.

The last time the drives were visible, I put my smard card in the I drive.
It kept telling me to insert the card, although I already had. Then, as I was
looking at it, the drive disappeared and has never re-appeared.

How do I restore these drives? I have up-to-date virus and spy-ware blocking
software, so don't believe it's a virus.

How do you use the digital smart card? Do you use them directly from the
camera? Do you have a memory card reader? How does the reader connect to your
system?

If you use a reader, you need to make sure it is correctly connected to your PC.

I have slots in my tower to insert the smart cards into. When I insert the
card (at least when I could access those drives - H & I), I would just click
on the drive in "My Computer" and the pictures would be shown. I would then
just drag and drop them to my hard drive, so I could clear the card and take
more pictures.

Those drives worked just like the A drive for floppy disks. The smart card,
in this case, was the "floppy" disk.

Is the computer under warranty? (Y = contact the warranty people)

If N consider:
is there a loose connector, mobo to reader.

Have any other card readers been introduced to the system?
(I understand there is some sort of limit in USB devices)

I hope it really is a loose connector...

Hello,

Make sure "smart card" service is enabled and set to automatic. What
interface does it use, if USB, what version? check device manager for any
interface problems. If your device came with a CD insert it and see if it
will do a repair. You may need to uninstall the software and reinstall.

Thank you, deebs. I had thought of checking connections, then got busy and
forgot about it. I just took the side off the tower and pushed and tapped on
things. When I turned the computer back on, the drives had re-appeared and
all is well. Thank you so much.

Ah! groovy!
