Missing Downloads

I am using an application that downloads excel files to my pc. I indicate
that I want these files to go to my desktop, but once the download has
completed, the file is nowhere to be found. I've even done a complete search
of my hard drive, and still no luck. When I try to download again, I'm told
the file is already there.

Where in the world is the file, and how do I access it?

It may be "off-screen". Try increasing your screen resolution or hiding the
taskbar and see if it mysteriously appears.

Alternative click the start button and paste in this and see if it's in the
folder that pops up

%userprofile%\Desktop

Nope, that didn't work. Any other ideas?

Start > Search > ext:xls

After the ext:xls press spacebar and type the first few characters of the
name of the download

Well the only other thing I can suggest is to try downloading them using
another application eg Internet Explorer.

It may be a bug in the particular program you're using.

If you go to C:\Users\youraccount\Desktop
do you see a button for "Compatability Files"?
If so, click on it.
