Missing Downloads

I recently purchased a HP computer with XP Media Centre and upgraded it to
Vista Home Premium. Downloads worked fine on the XP installation.

However when I attempt to download anything in Vista the downloaded files go
missing. The download starts correctly and allows me to select the
destination folder. The window then pops up and shows the downloads progress
- everything goes smoothly.

However once I attempt to find the files they are no where to be found. Not
in the destination folder, Downloads folder or even on the desktop when I
save them there.

If I do a search in the start menu, the file appears however when I click on
it, it just says the file is missing and to browse for it.

Please help, anyone with tips, solutions or in a similiar situation.

I can not download anything and install it, let alone find it

Look in explorer under downloads and my downloads. That's where they
generally end up in my system.

If you mean the downloads folder in My Documents or in the profile then they
are not there. No matter where I save them the go missing as soon as the file
is downloaded. It is as if the file deletes itself once it has finished
downloading.

This is becoming a major problem and one reason why I am considering
reinstalling XP
