missing default beep

My "default beep", in the Sound events window, in the
sounds and multimedia properties window has disappeared.
This is the event that causes the default sound to occur,
for instance, adjusting the volume. I also notice
the "internet alert" event is missing also. I recently
upgraded my firewall, not sure how this could have
anything to do with it, but I guess stranger things have
happened. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there.

Just a shot but have you removed the soundcard from Device
manager and re-installing it? This may bring back or re
find the sounds for the sound events...

You could extract the files using the extract command,
from the 2K CD and replace them.

Okay, I found out the problem. Basically, it's caused by
uninstalling Nortons AntiVirus.
It appears the Nortons uninstaller deletes this sound
event from the registry.
To fix it: I added a new user, logged in as that user, ran
REGEDIT, exported
