Symantec uninstall killed sound from volume control

Hello.

After Norton AV uninstall the feedback sound from the volume control in the
system tray has changed from chimes to a beep from the system speaker. The
result is that there is no feedback when I adjust volume - the system
speaker always beeps at the same volume. There doesn't seem to be anything
in Control Panel\Sounds & Multimedia or in the Registry or in Device Manager
that assigns a sound to this control. What am I missing?

Thanks,
nf

Never mind, I found it. The .Default key under
HKCU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default had been deleted from the registry.
When I added that key, 'Default Beep' appeared in 'Sounds and Multimedia
Properties'. I set it to 'Ding' (which is what it had been, not chord) and
all is as before.

Kinda scary, though, that the Norton Removal Tool from the Symantec website
would delete the default beep key from the registry. I now wonder if
anything else is missing.
