problem with sound

So I need to get sound from my computer... I go to the sound control panel,
no playback devices are available in the audio tab, all options are gray. In
the sound tab, I can't adjust the volume or anything, everything gray and
unchangeable. any suggestions? I'm sure there's a sound card available,
other computers on the network at least get sound from the modem speaker.

You need to install drivers for your sound card before it can be used. They
can be downloaded from the manufacturer of your computer (or if it was
purchased separately from the sound card manufacturer).
