Default Beep gone?

I click on the speaker icon in Win 2000 and the level
control pops up...then I click on the level control
expecting a "ding" sound and I get a beep out of the pc
speaker.

I works correctly under the administrator user name, but
under mine it doesnt. I looked further into the control
panel/sounds area and noticed in the list of sound events
that "default beep" is missing from my user name list,
however it is present for the administrator.

I believe I need to restore this item to my user name.

How do I do this and why would this have been deleted?

How can I make sure that I have all the default sound
events for win 2000 showing besides this one?

I can offer a quick fix, although I don't know how much of a blunt
instrument it is - it worked for me, is all I can say.

My solution was to log in as Administrator, and export the following
registry key (and everything under it) to a .reg file:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents

Once this is done, log in as the user which is suffering the beep
problem, and import this .reg file into the registry again.

It's possible you may need to make amendments to your sound scheme if it
is not the same as Administrator's, but this will restore the Default
Beep event sound if it's visible from the Administrator account.
