Minor, but annoying glitch with XP and Word 2002

I have a four-month old desktop computer running XP Home SP1. I use
the copy and paste commands quite a bit when using the computer, and have
noticed a peculiar glitch since I got this new machine. It's somewhat
awkward to explain, so let me give an example:

I notice some text on the Internet I'd like to copy and paste to a
Microsoft Word 2002 document. With Windows 95, 98 or ME, I'd first copy the
text, open up Word, and paste the text there. Simple and easy. But when I
try that procedure on my XP computer with Word 2002, the paste command will
not work. Instead, I have to first open Word, go back and copy the text,
and THEN the paste command works. With other programs like Notepad and
WordPad the old procedure still functions.

Obviously, this isn't a big deal, but I'd like to know if this nuisance
could be fixed.

So most likely, word is clearing the clipboard when it loads. Well, I just
tried it on mine (Windows XP Pro SP1, Word 2002 SP-2) and it worked fine. I
copied the text, then opened word, and pasted it.

So I'm not sure why your's doesn't work.

I noticed you are using Word 2002 SP2. I hadn't downloaded the
service packs for Word, so I went ahead and did so, thinking that might fix
this glitch. The updates were sucessfully installed, but the copy and paste
glitch remains.
