MIE 6 can't find Adobe Reader

When I am in MIE 6.0 (system: Windows XP on Dell PC) and
click on a link to a .pdf document, I get a little window
that says "Cannot find Adobe Acrobat." I have both Adobe
Acrobat 5.0 (for creating .pdfs, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat
Reader installed. I have removed and reinstalled both,
with no change. The Reader 6.0 program is
in /windows/programfiles/adobe/acrobat 6.0 . How can I
get MIE to find the reader and use it to open .pdf files?

It was fine when I first installed MIE. Then some
program I installed overrode my reader with an older
version that was included. I removed the old version and
installed 6.0. Ever since, MIE can't read .pdfs. I can
save them to my computer and then read them as .pdfs
stored in my system are read without problem.

Thanks!

Open up Adobe Acrobat and go to File, Preferences, General...

Under General Preferences, make sure Web Browser Integration
is checked.
