Explorer opens PDF file with wrong version of Adobe

I am running IE 6.0 on a XP system. I have installed
both a full version of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 as well as the
Acrobat Reader 6.0. I use the 5.0 version to for
transforming documents into PDFs and such but have not
paid to upgrade this. I use the free downladed 6.0
Reader to read PDFs. When I receive a link that goes
directly to a PDF file, for example
http://www.whatcomindy.com/2004/whatcomindy.pdf, IE uses
Acrobat 5.0 to open it rather than the 6.0 Reader. How
can I set it to use the Reader to open these links?
Thank you,
Vickie

Which version opens when you double-click a local pdf file? It should
be the same one that opens the web pdf. Check folder options, File
Types tab, scroll to (or type "p") PDF File, click Change, and you can
select any program as the default application for a pdf file.

Vickie,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe

Double-click (default) and paste the value here. Or, backup the key and
change the path to version Adobe 6.0 Path.
