midi files don't play

Anyone had problems playing midi files?
I'm using XP Professional. I can load files, but I can't
hear them playing. I've done sound trouble shooter,even
changed sound cards. What am I forgetting?

I had the same problem with WinXP Pro. To play MIDI, you
need to install the Windows MPU 401 driver.
Unfortunately, if you have ACPI installed (and you
probably do), it will want to share IRQ 9 with the MPU
driver, which results in a conflict. I have not yet
resolved that conflict, but MIDI files do now play
through Windows Media Player. They just don't sound as
good as they would thru MPU.
