Midi files are silent

I have a large selection of midi files, but suddenly they
won't play. Other types of music files play fine.

I used to click on a midi file in my computer or on a web
site and it would "just play." Now, WinMP window opens,
the play bar moves across, but no sound. I have the
newest version of WMP.

Obviously, I've deleted something I shouldn't have, but
I'm at a loss. Computer savvy friends have no answer,
either. I even did a "system restore" to a date prior to
having this problem. That didn't work.

Need some suggestions, please.

No answers from anyone in three days. I guess it's a
dead issue and a very unique problem. Oh, well.

Just to let you know you're not totally unique, my mid files abruptly quit
working today.
AFAIK I didn't change or delete anything that could have affected these. All
other sounds
and music work fine. So there's at least two of us who need help.

I have the same problem. I think it has to do wiht the audi settings, they are outlined in the image below, the 'MIDI Music Playback' was blank when I went in to that screen, that's probably why it wasn't playing.

I am still getting the problem though, after I press ok, it resets to being blank again.
