midi to wav

Hi, I want to burn a cd for my grandaughter and it is Midi and neither WMP
or Real will let me. I tried to convert it to a wav file by doing what I
have done in the past

Midi to wav

Open midi file, open sound recorder, adjust wave volume
(lowest) play and record /save to file (wav)

This doesn't work anymore since I had xp reinstalled, why? and can anybody
help me as my grandaughter wants to play the music on her cd player! Thanks

The Sound Recorder in Windows is limited to one minute recording, so I
assume that you used to use another program to record. Maybe something that
came with your sound card, like Creative Wave Editor, or whatever. (You
would remember if you had used a dedicated editor like GoldWave.)

On the player side, have you reinstalled your sound card - and made sure
that it can play? MIDI too? Sound font loaded (if applicable)?
Double-clicked the Volume icon in the System Tray (down right on your
screen), to check that levels and mutes are right?
Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio alright?

Many things can go wrong or be set contrary to your goal, and it is quite
hard to help you without being at your computer. I hope that you can
remember "everything" about the situation when it worked.
