What exactly are you trying to do ?

XP has GS Wavetable SW Synth which should be already installed. You can use
WMP to play midi files. If you're tryng to install a midi device which one ?

If you explain exactly do you want to do then more advice can be given. You
want just to play MIDI files ? WMP can do that.

If you have a MIDI device however, then you need to install its own specific
drivers.

You can also use Microsoft GS Wave Table Synth, to play MIDI files through
your soundcard.
