I am using Windows XP home edition. When I click on a new document, it takes
at least 30 seconds before a cursor appears. Sometimes it never appears and
a message on the top says the program is not responding. When a cursor does
appear I can type 3 - 4 words before the letters start showing on the screen.
Any suggestions from anyone. PS Other than that the rest of the programs
seem to be working fine.

Close word, then delete the file normal.dot. In my setup it's located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

This is the default document template. Sometimes it gets corrupted.
Word will create a new one.

If that doesn't work then I would suggest you post this question to the
experts in the Word Newsgroup that corresponds to the version you have.
