Microsoft Word 7.0 keyboard delay

I was typing normally on Word when a window appeared about a filter with a Yes or NO choice to accept and I stupidly chose Yes and then I had to hold down each letter key about at least 1 second in order for the letter to type. I don't remember anything about the filter described in the box that appeared but the problem remains despite closing down the program and restarting.
