Windows XP does not come with Word. Although some OEMs my place it on the
computers -- very few. You can buy it in stores or online.

Actual isnt that works, that comes with oems?

Breezy,
You will need a copy of either Works Suite or Office with Word ... been warned they are expensive. Why not go for one of the much cheaper ... even FREE sometimes ... alternatives such as Open Office or 602Office ... good luck ...

No. Neither Windows XP nor any other version of Windows has ever
come with Word nor with any other significant application
software.

If you want Word, you need to buy it, either alone, as part of
Microsoft Office, or, most inexpensively, as part of Microsoft
Works Suite.

Yes, they are what come with Windows. They are simple text
editors, and far from a real word processor.

Of course. You go to your friendly neighborhood computer (or web
vendor) and buy it.

Alternatively there are other word processors on the market: for
example Corel WordPerfect (my personal favorite), StarOffice, and
the freeware OpenOffice.

Correct -- actually a majority of OEM computer come with works. However,
Dell offers Office with a few computers...

Buy it.

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

1) Go to store/shop that sells computer software.

2) Purchase the either the stand-alone version of Word or the
Microsoft Office suite of your choice.

3) Return home.

4) Insert installation CD in PC's CD drive and follow the on-screen
prompts and instructions to install application and desired additional
features.

A Slightly cheaper solution may be to buy Microsoft Works, the latest
versions have word as the wordprocessors, and older versions have a simpler
word processor.
If you are not too bothered about having the very latest version you may be
able to get an older version of office on ebay, but do what you can to make
sure it is a legal version with the ID nos etc.

this is what is in Works 4

If you want to remove Microsoft Works for Windows 95 from your computer,
run Setup again, following these steps.

1. On the Start menu, click Programs.

2. Click Microsoft Works 4.0.

3. Click Microsoft Works 4.0 Setup.

4. When the Microsoft Works 4.0 installation screen appears, click
Remove All.

To get Word with Microsoft Works, you need to buy Works *Suite*,
not the plain Works.

Other cheaper solutions are other competing word processors or
office suites, such as StarOffice, OpenOffice, or my personal
favorite, Corel WordPerfect Office.

It's not close to MS Office, not any version of MS Office. I use OO and
Office 2003 on many systems and I can assure you that it's not close
enough. OO is a nice alternative for people that can't afford software,
but you can purchase OEM Word or OEM Office with the purchase of a MS
Mouse from many computer shops. You can buy the full Office 2003 with
Access 2003 for about $250 OEM.

It's got everything 99% of Word users will ever want: templates, tables,
styles, graphics, etc. And the suite has an Spreadsheet, an HTML
editor, a Power Point equivalent etc. The OP was just looking for word
processing. OO will certainly fulfill that requirement.

I've tried them all, and use Word in my daily work as my main
business software. The only alternative that comes close to Word
is WordPerfect. The others just don't measure up.

As always, it's a matter of your personal need and your personal
likes and dislikes. You think WordPerfect comes close to Word, I
think WordPerfect is *much* better.

Neither of us is right, except for our own uses, where we are
both right. Each person needs to determine for himself what's
best for him.
