Microsoft Word for XP shuts down computer

Every time i type a paper in Word my computer shuts down,
word can remain open without troubles, it is only when i
type that there are problems. I set up the computer to
display the BOS if it is a software issue. It said

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (oxooo4299B, 0x000000FF, 0x00000001,
0x8053177F)

any ideas as to what that means would be greatly
appreciated.
