MICROSOFT USB OPTICAL MOUSE WILL NOT CLICK

This happened all of a sudden. I highlight a icon to click and when I
place the cursor over the mouse it highlights but will not click.

Are you saying that clicking the mouse button is defective or when to do
double click on an icon it does nothing. The tiny switches in the mouse can
go bad!

The mouse is 5 months old. When I point the mouse anywhere the target
icon lights up but clicking does nothing. I tried to replace the video
drivers to no avail. I suspect the mouse.
