Microsoft Updates Question:

N

Navyguy

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2, with DSL connection. I have
AVG antivirus free version, Comodo firewall, Spyware Blaster and Hive
Cleanup. All of these have run well together and I have had no
problems.

Yesterday I ran Microsoft automatic updates and all went well and all
updates were successful. However since that time the Security update
KB956841 keeps coming up to be updated like it's in a loop or
something. In fact, I just updated it before this post and now its
back again! I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to stop
it or correct this so it will end the loop.

Thanks,
Robert

Read this Info and perform the instruction for the Bat file.
But first try this:
Open windows Explorer and delete these two folders:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution = Download and SelfUpdate should be deleted.
Run Disk Clean up on your Drive then Reboot your machine and try the bat file.
Open a notepad and copy and paste the following into it and save as
update.bat on your desktop. Double click the bat file to excute and click
[Yes to register the dlls and reboot your machine and see if that will help!

regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll

Download the Update manually from here and save it on your Desktop.
Security Update for Windows XP (KB956841)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...73-a640-49c1-b19e-768a18bbe22c&displaylang=en

Disconnect from the Internet and Disable your Anti-virs and Anti-malware and
try the installation, is it success (don't forget to Renable Both the AV and
the Anti-malware Application)?

If still having trouble try the below info:
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

Or try this fix.
Download Dial-a-Fix:

Robert,

If a manual installation with the installed AV temp disabled, as nass
recommended, doesn't resolve the reoffering issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956841
How to obtain help and support for this security update
For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and
Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. For more information about how to contact
your local Microsoft subsidiary for support issues with security updates, visit the Microsoft
International Support Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=4
North American customers can also obtain instant access to unlimited no-charge e-mail support
or to unlimited individual chat support by visiting the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=7552

Either Commodo/AVG or a failure to restart is the cause of the update
being reoffered.
