Microsoft Updates is not registering the updates I already have on my computer???

Microsoft scan my PC and comes to the conclusion that I need all the critical patches installed again for the third time??? Also the automatic updater logs on and starts downloading updates everytime I get on the net. Makes me wonder if the updates are installed in my computer. (It reads in my "ADD and REMOVE" that I have a number of "HOTFIXES" installed").
What could be causing this?????

Can you give us a list of the patches that keep reinstalling?
Is it ALL patches or just all of the patches from the Jan release? There
is a know issue w/ some versions of the recent MDAC patch where machines w/
some of the older versions of MDAC keep prompting to install the patch.
The workaround for this is to manually update the version of MDAC on your
machine to 2.6 sp2 or 2.8.
