Microsoft updates applied to W2K: System process @ 99%

I received automatic notification on 4/13 of Microsoft updates to be
applied: a cumulative security update for OE SP1, a critical update
for IE SP1, and 3 security patches for W2K. Now my System process
spikes at 99%. Whassup?

I see a similar effect on my laptop after the 5 patches for W2K
SP4 are applied.
 
I hade the same problem. The issue can be resolved in the following manner:

Boot into SAFE MODE (no networking or no command prompt).
Go to: Control Panel --> Add / Remove Programs
UNINSTALL Windows Hotfix KB 835732
Reboot...

This will fix your problem...
