Microsoft Updates and Restore.

There was quite a long correspondence a little while ago about
disappearing restore points and I was never quite convinced that
it was my own fault caused by accidentally setting up unwanted
disc monitoring. Well, it's happened again: my restore points
disappeared after the latest Microsoft "Updates" were downloaded
and installed. The external E: disc was not monitored but, after
the updating, the restore points vanished and the E: disc was
marked for monitoring. I wish Microsoft would stop screwing
around and leave my settings alone.

Hi Jim,

I just finishing my Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. The problem
unable to restore Windows, using Windows System Restore. Cause Diskeeper 10
Professional Premiere Trial Copy.

It did not allow me to Restore my computer, even after uninstalling
Diskeeper. Restore points are there, but unable to restore. Be not quick to
blame Microsoft all the time for problems that other software causes.

Hi,

Let's take a look at Event Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been
created recently that may help us diagnose the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title “Source” at the top of the source name column in the right
pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the two
arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event information to the
clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two event here. There’s no need
to post duplicate Event ID’s.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

Is there any documentation on this?

Is event viewer showing any 'sr' or 'srservice' errors?

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.

Hi Bert,

Should read: I just finished reinstalling an image of my operating
system, Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. I had developed a problem,
like I had before with a process making type bold to normal to bold to
normal again. It was bothersome and elected to do a Windows System Restore.
I had just installed Diskeeper 10 copy. So I uninstalled the program, so it
wouldn't be in the computer after I ran Windows System Restore. Windows
System Restore failed to restore my computer. So I reimaged my computer with
a Backup image I created.

Never had problems with Windows System Restore before I installed
Diskeeper.
