Microsoft updates and Powerpoint performance

I received an update from Microsoft on the 30th of Aug that affected my
Powerpoint's ability to open files from other sources. I tried to open a
Powerpoint file from my school's I drive the other day and I get a message
that says, Powerpoint can't read the file. I didn't have any trouble opening
these same files before the update. I had to download them to my hard drive
so that I could access them.
 
Which version of PPT are you using, and what update did you install?
