Edit Links to Files Powerpoint 2007

I have a couple of Powerpoint presentations with graphs where the data is
linked to an Excel spreadsheet. At one point when I opened the presentation I
received a message (Microsoft Office Powerpoint Security Notice) asking if I
want to update the links. Now however, not only do I not receive the message
allowing me to update the links, but the Edit Links to files option has
disappeared from my Office menu. I can update the graphs by opening each one
individually (if the Excel file is open) but I have a few hundred slide to
update on a regular basis and would like to have it automated (again)
Anyone have any suggestions?
Both the Excel and Powerpoint file are in the same folder on the C Drive

Hi Steve,
Thats my problem exactly I go into Office Menu > Prepare, but the Edit Links
option is not available (no scroll option) Perhaps what I am thinking is a
link, no longer is in Powerpoint 2007.

On the slide I have inserted a graph, select edit data, an Excel worksheet
opens, and the cells are filled with 'equals' formulas ie. ='C:\Link
Test\[Excel Test.xls]SalesV'!$B$2

Would (should) a graph set up this way be considered a link, and should it
automatically update?

Baby Step by Baby Step:
1. open powerpoint presentation
2. create new slide
3. select 'Insert Chart' icon on slide and create a line graph
4. right click on graph and select 'Edit data'
5. enter formulas into worksheet (='C:\Link Test\[Excel
Test.xls]SalesV'!$B$2)
6. close worksheet
7. save powerpoint presentation

Would the file extension have any impact on this?
the powerpoint file is .pptx, the Excel files are .xlsm and .xls
If it would help I can send you a powerpoint and excel file to look at

Hard to say w/o knowing how the graph got there in the first place.

How *exactly* did the graph get into PPT? Baby step by baby step.

Not a problem, thanks again for all your help.
I've decided to switch all the graphs to the Excel books, that way I can
copy them into other presentations as need.

In 2010, to edit links to Excel you need to do the following:
1. With the power point presentation open, click on the File tab
2. On the menu at the side, click Info
3. Then on the bottom right, there is a heading called Related Documents. Under that heading, click on Edit Links, and a dialog box appears showing you all the files that are linked to the presentation. Click to select the Excel file

Hope this helps.
