Microsoft Outlook 2007 w/Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 asks forpassword, won't send or receive

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 w/Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. I
continue to get a message asking me to put in my password, and even
though I do, it does not send or receive; just asks for the password
again. Someone told me it was because my Outlook has too many emails
in it. Someone else told me my Exchange Server has too many emails on
it-that I possibly need to go to the online access and delete items
from there. Which is it? I don't want to delete my emails from
Outlook, I need them.
