Microsoft optical mouse is TOO fast

Whenever I try to click on an object once, the computer
registers the object as being clicked a number of times.
For instance, if I want to close one of three webpages by
clicking the close symbol once, all three webpages will
close.

Any help or hints, anyone?
 
Open the Intellimouse software and set the click speeds.
