Microsoft Management Console problems

Hi!

I have a fairly confusing problem. I right-click on "My Computer" i
Windows 2000 Pro on my PC, go to "Manage" and get the "Microsof
Management Console". I then go to Actions and click on "Connect t
another computer" and NOTHING happens.

I can manage my own PC with this interface, but I cannot get to anyon
else's PC through it. WMI will not let me manage other PCs, MMC won'
let me either. I have literally tried everything I can think of to ge
this to happen, short of reinstalling everything on my PC.

What I need to know is which function (when run from the command line
would control this, or which snap-in controls it, or what service t
enable or what? I'm at my wits end here, and I use this function on
DAILY basis. I'm tired of having to find another PC and use it fro
there.

It is not the firewall or the network system. I can use this fro
another PC. It is not my permissions, I'm local admin on ever
machine, as I have to be as the primary tech for them. It's not m
connection to the network, I have tried it through the docking statio
and straight through. It's not my laptop as I was able to use thi
about a week ago (before a reload due to spyware). I can't think o
anything it may be. I need some help here.

Thank you.

Eri

What happens when you tyry to ping the machines by NetBIOS name (the same
name you would type into the MMC)?

I can ping them. Responses come back fast.

It appears to be a problem on my local machine. Network issues ar
fine, traffic is fine. I can even get out to various machines with th
same PC that is messing up. I can get to the admin share too. Jus
not through the Computer Managment console
