Microsoft knowledge base not working

I have just reinstalled XP, and I am having trouble with help and support.
When I use start, help and support, I then type into the box what I require
help for, and press the search button.
I then receive the search results and there are three categories, the first
is suggested topics, which is working okay. The second is called full text
search messages and this seems to be working okay. The third category is
Microsoft knowledge base, and this is my problem as this function does not
seem to be working, and I get no results back for a search, (it does not seem
to be searching the Microsoft knowledge. base) although I have broadband and
I am permanently connected to the Internet, by a cable modem. I suspect that
this feature is not turned on somewhere, but I have no idea, where to look to
find it. Can anybody help me with this please?

You're not the first person to have reported this. It's not just your
computer. Yes something seems to be wrong, although I have no details.

By the way, very few people seem to know this, but this newsgroup was
created to provide help for the Help and Support feature of Windows. You may
be the first person I have ever seen using this newsgroup for its intended
purpose, so congratulations!

Hi MELW,
I have a gateway pc, came loaded with xp home and by default the ms
knowledge base option was not on. Over the years since purchase I have
reloaded windows once and again this feature of help and support was not
turned on. My help and support window has a gateway interface so my search
options are just under the search box. Try hunting for your search options
and make sure they are all on.

I think he means that it's really not working for anyone. It's not working
for me either. The link is just another way of searching the knowledge base
while the Help & Support function doesn't. ;-)

Understood!...... I have been trying to get this to work for some time now,
just shows I should have come to this group in the first place. Many Thanks
to you all for your help. Much appreciated!

Most of us have only just cottoned on to the fact that it is not
working. The problem has been brought to the attention of Microsoft. I
do not know whether they were aware of it previously.
