Microsoft is 'Using' Adobe "Flash Media" UPDATES ...

Microsoft is using Adobe's "Flash Media" UPDATES, to 'compromise' your
computer's - video card CODECs.

My 'Windows 2000 / ATI Media Center 7.x' (configuration) was "working
fine" :

Until I downloaded - Adobe's "Flash Media 9.0"
[Only because some Web Site 'SAID' that "I Needed It" !!! ]

Since then; my ATI "All-In-Wonder 128 Pro" video card - has been "put
out to pasture". }8- |

Talk about your 'ks.sys' - Error Message..

This FILE didn't even exist (on my computer) - until after this
'Adobe' UPDATE.

AND, 'Windows' will not even allow me to "Un-Install" this - Adobe
"Flash Media" UPDATE ???

Since when did - MY COMPUTER - become the property of Microsoft ( and
their [self-righteous] 'Cronies') ????

8-{

It may have beeen 'Written' into the Windows XP (User) Agreement, but
it is not in the Windows 2000 Professional (User) Agreement.

I am 'smelling' a Major "Law Suit" here. !!!

AND (In case you are 'Wondering')

YES, I did do a 'Re-Installation' of Windows 2000 (including Windows
2000 "Service Pack 3");

And I even installed the DirectX 8.1 drivers (w/ the DirectX 8.x
"Capture Video" update).

Even then - everything was still "Working Fine" !!!

8- )

It was ONLY after I 'Installed' the Adobe "Flash Media' update - that
my video card took a CR*PPER !!!

Try this solution. Apparently, a prior install of Adobe Flash Media
needs to be uninstalled before the update is installed. The uninstall
program is here:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

After running this uninstall program, allow Flash Media 9 to be
installed, but only after IE asks for it and it is installed from the
Internet.

GHalleck,

Why are you using SP3 anyway?

Why not upgrade to 4 & instead of DirectX 8.1 (which has a bug) upgrade to
the latest version (June 2007)?

I am doing fine and our Windows 2000's are all current, with SP4 and
subsequent patches, hotfixes, etc. The response was to the OP, since
we had a pretty similar situation that was making our Windows 2000
systems unstable. Someone proposed a solution in UseNet, suggesting that
there were possible issues involving Active-X and the older Flash files
that were not over-written with the update. The solution has worked, so
far.

THANKS - Everyone for your responses.

It is great to see that I am not 'alone' on this one.

I have upgraded to the Windows 2000 SP-4 - previously (also without
any 'major' problems).

I have even 'attempted' to upgraded to DX-9 (with only 'minor'
glitches).

But, updating to Adobe 'Acrobat' Reader 6.x (or greater) and Adobe
'Flash' 9.x (or greater) - has caused the "Downfall" of my system.

WHICH just happens to 'coincided' with the time that Microsoft bought
"Controlling" interest in Adobe !!!

Just A 'Serious' Second Thought here.

I Just 'Clicked' on Adobe's 'Flash 9.x' Update [on my Main - Windows
2000 (w/ ATI 9600 Radeon) computer] - in "Control Panel", "Add /
Remove Programs" (and selected "Add/Remove").

And, this program 'Dis-Appeared' - faster than a Rabbit !!!

There must be SOME 'connection' between this Program, and older ATI
'All-In-Wonder' video cards ???
