Microsoft is putting out a Coffee Table - Can Ubuntu do this?

(With all due respect - I'm a sane fan of Linux) -- if this were
Linux-based, you'd get a blank screen when trying to install the advanced
graphics driver, and the wireless configurations between the cameras and the
table would be a pain to configure because you'd have to search and scour
the forums for several of the few people who knew how to configure it to
help you out.

But then, there'd be many cameras that are not supported by the table, so
you'd have to wait, maybe 6 months to a year for the drivers to come out.
And when they came out, by some 3rd party company, there'd be little or no
support for them and you'd be on your own with everyone else on the forums
trying to configure them.

Thus you'd be staring at the table all the time, but not because of cool
photos, but because you'd be trying to figure it out, so you'd be staring
blankly at the table with nothing happening.

;) All in fun,....Frank B.

What ever OS is in play doesn't really matter what does matter is
what the possibilities such devices as Multi-touch screens will
offer us in the future. This is just a very small taste of what we
will see in the near future I for one can't wait! One tiny step
closer to my Halo deck!

I perked up when he mentioned wallpaper multi-touch screens. Yes I
know it is probably not on my life time I will ever be able to afford
something like that.....but remember how expensive the very first
digital calculators were?

Multi-touch wallpaper and porn! can you just imagine the finger
prints (not to mention other stains) all over your walls. I CAN'T
WAIT!!!

ROFLMAO

Now you're really showing your ignorance. Xbox is hugely successful! If
you happen to have read MS's original business plan for xbox, you'd know
initial losses were planned for to achieve market penetration. which has
happened, as planned.

Sure. xBox is losing money hand over fist.
If Vista can do it, Linux can do it better, btw.

Yeah right! That guy in the garage is busy working on it as we speak.
Frank

Please spare us your garage fantasies.

It ain't about linux servers, or linux embedded software or more
importantly, it is not about linux desktop.

There is very little moderation here. If you don't like the fact that
frustrated Vista users may need an alternative, tough titties.
You come in here to spread your misery and then you get your panties all
bunched up when people tell you to shove it where the sun don't shine.
You need to get a life cause its readily apparent your life with linux
just ain't working.

What misery? You need to chill out, dude.

Sounds like you're talking about Vista, not Linux.

In all fairness and hopefully good fun ;), I've merely stated stuff that
I've seen in the Ubuntu forums for the last few weeks. But then, I've been
in the Ubuntu Absolute Beginner's Forum, so maybe one is bound to see a lot
of frustration there. I have Ubuntu on all 3 of my computers (2 of them
laptops), mostly dual booting with MS.

I think if people want to support or even peddle Linux, their best place to
be is over at the Linux forums helping beginners. Being over here and
starting arguments about which OS is best - although sometimes it's fun to
read and I want to go grab some popcorn at times because it's so
entertaining - at best comes across as immature. Hey, every adult likes a
little folly now and then, but every day??

I'm beginning to see that MS and Linux each have their headaches one must
deal with - they are just in different areas.
Thanks, Frank B.

Huh? They already know about Linux. Most Windows users don't. As MS gets
more intrusive with its ineffective anti piracy crap and institutes more
DRM, people will want to know about alternatives. Most Windows users
think Linux is too techie for them. I'm here to let them know it isn't.

The best place for help with Linux is not a forum but IRC, btw.

You are wrong. Linux is too techie for most Windows users. The line
commands are foreign, they don't know what add-on to install, how to add a
user? How to modify rights, etc.....

For you it's easy, but for a newbie, they just look at the screen and say,
"What now?".

Go to the beginner forum of Ubuntu and look at how many questions go
unanswered from new users, and look at how many questions newbies post.
There are thousands.

In Windows if you just browse and click, you can usually find your way. I'm
not saying that Windows is the best OS out there, I'm saying that for a
newbie, it is easier to navigate through Windows.

Gee, isn't that like standing outside Burger King to tell everybody about
Wendy's new sandwich?

Free speech and all, pro-linux preaching in Microsoft newsgrops/forums is
still bad form, because a lot of people really need and want help but they
have to search for it between completely offtopic discussions,

I know you have a right to voice you opinins, but sometime sme of
conveations in hese newsgroups actually interfe with someone's ability to
locate they genuinely helpful information.

Just my six cents worth. (inflation)

This is why IRC exists.

I'm an Ubuntu newbie. My only experience before Ubuntu was Windows.

Like I said, IRC is a better place to get help than the forums. When you
first install Ubuntu and open Firefox, it tells you how to access IRC.
In Windows if you just browse and click, you can usually find your way.

Huh? Can you be more specific?

It's easier for a kid to ride a bicycle but eventually they learn how to

Um, Burger King customers already know about Wendy's. Windows users
don't know much about Linux, if at all.

Who cares if you can't admit that linux, especially urbuttoo is simply a
toy and a piece of shit.
Who cares other than you?

Most in this ng totally agree with your statements. There are a few
linux losers who have come to this ng to simply disrupt others. They are
easily identified because they don't use either a real name or their own
name.
They don't use, yet deeply dislike Vista and a few don't use anything MS
at all. They hate Bill Gates/Steve Ballamer and all things MS...which
BTW, is pre-requisite for becoming a linux loser troll.
If this were a war (it isn't?) they would be considered enemies and
would be shot on site.
They have purposefully made themselves all of the above and want to be
considered as 'the enemies".
I certainly do!

What proof do we have that your real name is "Frank"? And, of the
billions of Franks in the world, how does your posting with the name
Frank tell us anything about you?
They don't use, yet deeply dislike Vista and a few don't use anything MS

I dislike the DRM and the ineffective anti piracy programs, something
you NEVER address.

How can I hate someone I don't know? I do dislike some of the things
they've done but that isn't the same thing.
which

What did we lose?
If this were a war (it isn't?) they would be considered enemies and

How charming. Who else would you shoot on site?
They have purposefully made themselves all of the above and want to be

I certainly do!

We know you have a problem. We notice it every time you snort and belch.

In all the years I have been using MS operating systems and occasionally
seeking help for some problem that seems obtuse to me, I've never run
across the snottiness from MS users that I have from linux users.

IRC? IRC is the epitome of rudeness and bad information.
