microsoft installer

I have windows xp pro. I seem to have lost my microsoft
installer. Can someone tell me how to get it back? I even
reinstalled windows and it's still not there. I get a
mssage that says "can't load installer for tape"
something like that.

I tried to load Norton friewall 2004 and it keeps telling
me--RUN MSI FROM THE SETUP

I do not know what to do

I believe what you do is to run the System File Checker (SFC) Tool:
A. Get out your XP CD and keep it handy.
B. Start/Run/type "cmd" less Quote Markers/Click "OK".
C. In the following Window/type "sfc /scannow" at the blinking Cursor
and press the keyboard "Enter" key.
The System File Checker will run and check for missing or corrupted
operating files and restore/repair them from the CD.
