Microsoft has encountered a problem (blah, blah, blah)

This subject has probably been discussed many times in the NG, but I
can't find anything without checking lots of messages. I'm hoping
someone can help me.

Since yesterday the Microsoft problem message has been popping up about
every 20 minutes, no matter what I'm doing. Since I'm on the Internet
more than off of it, I don't know whether it would happen offline. I
have Windows XP 2002 version. I sent in one of the messages and got the
answer that it was a driver problem, but everytime in the past that I've
sent in an error message, it has said the same thing. I'm really
baffled as to what's wrong. Do I need to upgrade a driver? If so,
which one?

Yesterday I also got one of those dreaded blue screen messages that I
needed to shut down. Since it's impossible to save those messages or
copy and paste them, I have no idea what that was all about. But I
haven't had a fatal blue screen message in several years, so something
must really be wrong.

I did a virus scan with Stinger this morning, and nothing was reported.

Can someone please give me an idea or two? Thanks.

What exactly does the error message say, word for word?

Look at the first couple lines of the error message for the stop code and
the text of the error. When online, go to...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d..._12795dee-19a9-4461-a135-bbb882b81455.xml.asp

.... and look up the error code for clues.

If it is a driver, this usually happens when new hardware is installed or
drivers are updated. If this has happened, try uninstalling the hardware or
rolling back the driver in Device Manager, or use System Restore.

I don't know word for word. Why won't Microsoft let me copy the
message? Unless you're a technician, it's just a lot gibberish.

Well, I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, since I sent in the one
error message to Microsoft, I've sent in other messages and they haven't
gotten back to me with any reports. I haven't installed or updated any
new drivers.

I had this all the time after trying to pack in a few extra memory SIMMs
(is that what they're still called?). I went back to the previous
installation of 512MB and all is fine.

Next time write down the message verbatim and post back with it. For
the blue screen stop message write that down verbatim too - the first
stop code is the most important. No one can help you without knowing
what error messages you're getting - we are not mind readers. Searching
the MS knowledge base for error blah blah blah didn't come up with any
useful information.

You use a low-tech solution, i.e. write it down on a piece of paper.

You can't copy and paste from a BSOD because there's not any OS running
at that point because the system has halted.
