Microsoft Fax/Fax over network?

I am wondering if the Microsoft Fax that comes with WinXP
(accessories, communications, fax) can be configured to
fax across a network (no modem). It would have to send
the fax to a network connected multifunction unit that has
a phone line connected for faxing.

Any info would be appreciated.

No - if your requirements include shared fax, then you will need to upgrade
to 2003 server - XP's fax can be used locally only.

If you have a Windows 2003 Server with modem, then you can send Fax from
your XP machine using the server modem. The XP Fax will behave as a Fax
client and the 2003 Fax will behave as the Fax server. The Fax server will
send the Fax to the destination number. The Fax server need to be shared and
this is possible in 2003, not XP.
