Microsoft Exchange

Whenever I open an outlook attachment, MS Exchange opens the document instead
of MS word. How can I get rid of exchange?
I’ve configured outlook for internet e-mail and I’ve reinstalled outlook but
exchange is still there.

Exchange is a mail server - it doesn't "open" documents. please tell us
EXACTLY what happens.

I forwarded an email from my yahoo mail account to my outlook account. The
message is forwarded as an attachement. When I open the attachment, it opens
as an exchange message insteat of an outlook message.
The key issue for me is that I don't want to exchange as a server. How do I
get rid of it?

I have no idea what you mean by an "exchange message" - as I said,
exchange is a piece of software for transferring email messages from one
account to another - it doesn't "open" messages. Your Email client opens
messages.

When the attachment is opened, there is a banner accross the top that gives
the name of the file and then Microsoft Exchange (e.g. Test - Microsoft
Exchange). The menus and pull - down lists are what you'd expect from a mail
client which exchange is. I have another computer here and the same
attachment is opened as an HTML document.
As I said earlier, I would like to remove exchange from my system.

No, Exchange is NOT a mail client! It's a mail SERVER!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to respond. But with all due
respect, your responses miss the mark. You are focused on telling me what
exchange is rather than helping me remove it from my system.

When the message is open, go to Help-about and that will tell you what has
opened the message.

As I reported in my reply to Gordon, I did a help-about and determined that
it was Microsoft Exchange Version 5.0.1458.47 that opened the document.

Earlier I consulted outlook help which instruted me to configure outlook for
internet e-mail and to reinstalloutlook to replace the exchange client with
the outlook client. I did this but exchange is still there.

I hope we have gotten pass the question of whether or not exchange opens the
message forwarded as an attachement from my yahoo mail account to my outlook
account.

For reasons of my own, I DO NOT want MS Exchange on my system. I would
really like someone to tell me how to get rid of it.

If you go to Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | File Types and find
what program is configured to open MSG files. If it's not set to open with
Outlook...change it to open with Outlook.
