i recieved the following email with attachment on 9-13-03.

Dear friend, use this Internet Explorer patch now!
There are dangerous virus in the internet now!
More than 500,000 already infected!

i believe this email to be a fake.
 
Also note, if this was a direct copy and paste of the text, note the poor
english grammar "There are dangerous virus in the internet now!" where it
should be "There are dangerous viruses on the internet now!"
Even at that, note the simplistic language, no details, and no information
on what vulnerability this patch is for. Also Microsoft only emails about
viruses to its customers, it does not attach any files or executables. It
will only direct you to a legitimate Microsoft download location center,
and/or information page about the vulnerability being addressed.
