MICROSOFT DISTRIBUTES DOWNLOADABLE ERRORS...?

Couldn't be more disappointed with this! Needed a StartUp Disc for Windows XP Pro... found on their Downloads site that I could put it onto 6 3.5" floppies... so I did. Numbered them 1-6 as it said to, reformatted laptop, time for StartUp Discs, put the first one in, no problem, second one in, problem! Remember this was straight from their site... the problem was... "File \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code 7. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit." Now I'm stuck with a laptop that can't even be used as a calculator all because they told me to download something that doesn't even work! Hopefully somebody here would be able to think of something creative to do. Any suggestions are appreciated, or an e-mail address to somebody in Microsoft that might care that some of their downloads are worthless. Anything is helpful... Thanks!

can't you use your xp cd for booting, set or bios to be able to boot from cd
as first option of booting order.

I'm not exactly sure what error code 7 means, but my best guess would be that
one of your floppy disks has some bad sectors on it. Can your laptop not boot
from the cd itself?

Oh, I forgot to mention that if your laptop can't boot from a cd, this site:
http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/ has a boot manager you can install on a single
floppy disk that allows you to boot from cd, even on computers that don't
support it.

Ah, another moron who blames MS instead of considering the (correct)
possibility - which is that the disk is bad.

Why on earth are you bothering with floppies - change the boot sequence to
boot from the CD.

You should always check the boot disks before formatting to make sure that
they work and it will boot to the disks. Not testing first is a bad idea as
you have found out. You have a bad floppy disk. Either boot to the xp cd to
install, or get new floppies, or get a single xp boot disk here:

Why even bother using floppy disks, which are notoriously
unreliable, even fresh out of the box?

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
