Microsoft Critical update?

B

Bob

In checking out the latest updates for my xp 1 critical update (KB870669)
and 1 security update (J8839643) and 1 recommended update (windows error
reporting) came up. I tried multiple times to download and install and each
time I get: "The software you are installing has not passed windows logo
testing to verify its compatiblity with windows xp. The software will not be
installed"
After each message I click ok and get a message to "Try again".

First - don't understand Microsoft putting out updates that won't pass their
own logo or compatability.
Second - what can I do now (as one is a critical and one is a security
update)?

Note, before attempting to access Windows Updates after performing any of
the steps below be sure to first clear the IE cache. In Internet Explorer
go to Tools, select Internet Options, on the General tab, click Delete
Cookies, Delete Files (accept the option to clear all offline files) and
click clear History.

Michael, your instruction to delete all cookies makes me
shiver. Is that a necessity? I personally have stuff
like passwords, etc. housed in various cookies, and all
that would be lost by the general deletion.

It's not absolutely necessary, you can try individually deleting only the
cookies that apply to this site. Sometimes cookies create issues of their
own, clearing them all eliminates the possibility of corruptions in that
folder as the source of the issue.
