microsoft composite battery problem

Hi,

After installing some software on my new hp pavilion
laptop with XP Home, the device driver for the microsoft
composite battery stopped working. As a result, the UPS
service can't start and I have lost the ability to monitor
the battery level. Using hp support, I deleted the device
from the list and restarted to see if windows would detect
the device and configure it automatically. Windows did not
detect the device automatically or through a search for
new hardware.
