What is Microsoft 2000? Do you mean Windows 2000? Or?.....

Sorry,
Yes it is windows 2000 and I can plug in the mic and get a
sounds recording but if I tap the mic I hear no sound from
my speakers? There was no prompt to do any set up and I
checked my volume control. Now what do I do?

Hi,
Hmmm, I use W2K too. Double click on the volume control icon in the task
bar(bottom right corner on the desk top). You'll see all the settings
regarding your audio stuffs. On the sound card you have line-in and mic
jack. Which one are you using? Double check it as well.
