Messenger service stopping.

I know everyone else is turning this thing off, but I have an installation
that wants to use it. (This is the simple Messenger service in XP not MSN
messenger.)

Sometimes it reports it is "stopping." A restart fixes it. This occurs after
someone has use NET SEND to that machine. Is there a reason for it stopping
on its own?

After the restart it works.

I never turn it off, its a useful tool. Does this user have aol installed? I
believe AOL 8/9 stops the messenger service by default.

Is it set to automatically start in Services? If so when it does stop it
should auto-start next time it used. If not maybe try a start, run, type in:
sfc /scannow

It never says it stopped. It says it is "stopping" and stays that way. Last
time I checked it even did this when rebooting.

Any ideas?

Sounds like its hanging when it tries to stop itself. I'd try the sfc /
scannow command and see if it fixes it.
