Messenger invoke

I am not clear if this is an XP question or Messenger. How do I "only" invoke
Messenger when I call it from the Programs menu. I don't wish to have it run
unless I invoke it. It appears in my "bar" at the bottom right of my screen
each time I boot up.

In Messenger, go to 'Tools', 'Options...', 'General' and uncheck the
option to automatically run Messenger.
