how to stop AIM and Yahoo Messenger from invoking on startup

My PC has: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600)

I recently downloaded AIM and Yahoo messenger.
America Online, Inc. - AOL Instant Messenger Version 5.2.3292
Yahoo! Messenger Version 5, 6, 0, 1355

Now they both launch themselves each time I login.
How can I stop them from auto-invoking?

I already looked in all the startup directories I could find using search
and found nothing of interest relating to either of these programs.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hello,

1. Run MSCONFIG
2. Look in your startup items for Ypager and AIM.
3. You can either disable them in MSCONFIG or just use MSCONFIG to find
where they are loading in the registry and then use regedit to remove those
settings.

Hi,

With AIME I dont save my password and also, on the sign
on/off option make sure by right clicking the icon and
choosing preference then sign on/off that you dont have a
tick in the box marked 'start AIME when windows starts.' I
think its more or less the same for yahoo
