Messenger audio question

I have been using messenger for a while with both audio and a webcam
both working fine. All of a sudden, the webcam works fine but the
audio won't connect either way?? The only thing I have changed is a 4
port router as my old one failed yet I can't see anything in the setup
that would block an audio connection?

PC is running XP home.

If I go into the wizard in messenger, I can see the volume line move
as I speak so I know the mic is working.

Any ideas please, this is driving me nuts!!

cheers,
Len

Find out what port messenger uses to communicate.
your new router probably has the one blocked off.
you can usually get help here form the manufacturer

AFAIK there are NO ports blocked, there is an option to do so but I
don't use it.

Len,
try connecting the PC directly to the modem.
then see what happens.

knee jerk reaction says, if something changes,
and something else fails, then the problem is with what was changed.
Just because you didn't close a port, doesn't mean it isn't closed...
it could be part of a firewall thing.

If it's a cable modem, you might have to turn it off, wait 30 seconds,
then turn it back on to allow it to retrain itself.

Hmmmm. thinking of some basics here...
have you gone into the sound mixer settings,
and seen if anything was clicked to be muted?
or maybe you had a microphone boost on, and now it's off?
