Messeges in Outbox, not sent

It appears that messeges that I either create or reply to aren't being sent.
The messeges are in my Outbox. This just started on 09-24. The option that
copies are put in my 'sent folder' has been selected since we got this PC in
Jan.

We are using Vista.

It is a problem with your Internet Provider (post box) not accepting your
mail (not Vista mail) - Check a few things:

If it was working and just stopped - it's almost guaranteed a server issue
which will probably sort itsself in a few days
If it's a recently installed account - check that you pop3 setting on your
email account are same as your IP recommend - Go to your Internet Provider
web site then site search for "pop3 settings" - whilst you are there, check
to see if they advertise any server problems

I have the same problem. I compose a new mail or reply to a received
mail, and click send, and the message goes to my outbox and is not
sent. I have checked the box for "Send messsages immediately" and I
have also checked the box for "Send/receive messages at startup" in
the tools/options. If I click on the "Send/receive" button to attempt
to force the message out, nothing happens while there is a message in
the outbox. (Ironically, the "Send/receive" button does work
correctly when the outbox is empty.) Unticking the "Send messages
immediately" box has no effect. Unticking the "Send/receive at
startup" box means that I cannot send messages at all, as the only way
I can send at the moment is to compose a message, click "Send" to move
it to the outbox, then close and re-open Windows Mail, at which point
the "Send/receive at startup" function sends any unsent mail in the
outbox.

I've tried installing the patch described by a previous poster, and it
has had no effect. I have also tried following the instructions on
the Windows Tutorial Forum: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html,
but I was unable to delete some files from within the Windows Mail
folder because they were already being used by another process. (I
have deactivated the email scanning in Norton 360 but it has not had
any effect either.) Furthermore, when I tried to re-import messages
back to Windows Mail, the location that I attempted to export them to
previously had not been created, even though at the time it appeared
that the folder was there. Fortunately, I was able to restore the
lost messages directly from the Recycle Bin, I only permanently lost
one message, why I lost that one I don't know.

I've contacted my ISP, who tell me that it's not a problem with them,
and they referred me to Microsoft. I contacted them, and they
referred me to the laptop manufacturer, Toshiba in this instance.
Toshiba pointed me to the patch KB941090, but as I say this has not
helped. I have sent an e-mail back to Toshiba to tell them that this
has not rectified the problem, but they have not yet responded.

Could it be because I also have Windows Defender pre-installed, and it
is conflicting with Norton?

Anyone else got any bright ideas, cos I'm utterly stumped. It's a
pain in the butt, I can get round it by simply restarting Windows Mail
every time I want to send a mail, but that's hardly a convenient long-
term answer, and I'm convinced that Windows Mail has other problems
too - occasionally I have difficulty attaching files to messages.
Perhaps I should re-install Windows Mail? How would I do this, as it
was pre-installed on the machine at purchase (I bought it 2 months
ago)?

Thanks,
Rob.

My problem is the same. I can receive but not send. It sits in my outbox. My
problem started on the 27th of September.
God I hate vista.

You are another Norton victim.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
