Messed up Computer

Using XP home... When i start up my computer, it reverts to some old settings
i had and the mouse and keyboard dont respond and nothing works. I should
probably reinstall but i would lose everything. I was using SBC connection
manager and it made me change to older settings because "network settings
have been changed" and im thinking that may be the cause because when i
restarted after changing, everything was messed up. I really do not want to
reinstall...what do i do....

What happens when you boot into safe mode?

Are you aware that you don't have to use the SBC /Yahoo software, whether
for dialup or DSL. If you suspect that this is the cause of your trouble,
uninstall the SBC/Yahoo software and manually create a dialup/dsl connection
in 'Network Connections', (start menu>settings>network connections>create
new connection). I'm with SBC and do not use their software which is a
resource hog.
