Hopefully someone can help. I am running Windows XP with Office 2000/2003 (I
am unsure of the exact version.) When I receive new mail in my inbox, and
actuallu select and read them, it doesnt not remove the "bold" affect like it
hasn't been read.

Also, there are custom "inbox" folders which all work normally.... read a
message, and bold goes away, however on the actual INBOX it will not.

I have already checked tools > options > other > reading pane, and I beleive
these to be the proper options, yet they don't seem to change anything on the
INBOX folder. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Kelly,
Open the INBOX
click View
Current view
Customize Current view
Automatic Formatting
Check and click on "Read messages"
Font
Select Regular ( or any other option, like size and color)
click OK on all the windows

Rgrds,

I checked the version now that I am at the machine in question. Hoever I
have no view/current view when the inbox is selected....

I found the portion you are referring to (customize current view) however now
there is no section regarding "read messages" at all, there is "unread
messages" and a few others but no "Read messages"

Hi,
If you do not have the"Read messages" you can create it.
Click the ADD button on the right of the dialog box, name it
"Read messages" and than continue with the setting.

I appreaciate the effort Dave thanks, but even after creating a category
called "read messages"... then what ? how does Outlook know what I mean by
"read messages", not to mention this funtion is built in to Outlook, why
should I have to create anything custom, when its a normal funtion of a
default install of Outlook? Sorry I am a little lost.

Hi Kelly,
Sorry for the late reply, but for some reason I did not get the mail
notification
of you reply and discovered it just doday.
Maybe "creating" was not the right word to use because, as you say,
" read messages" is a standard outlook funktion but you have to set it
to be used. Outlook will recognize it the same way as "Sent items" or
"Message received from somebody" or one of all the other rules.
Just do as I explained before, if you do not have "read messages"
in the Automatic Formatting dialog box in the" Rules for this View" window,
click the ADD button and set it up.
Rgrds,
