messages marked as read

What do I have to do so the mail I read is marked as read when I open it? As
it is now, it is not marked as read until I go to the next email. I would
like it to open the envelope when I click on that particular message.

Set it to automatically mark the item as read after 1 second;
Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Reading Pane...
