message rules

AJS

Hello,
I have a profile with multiple accounts.
I created folders for each account and subfolders within each account
folder.
For example: I have an account "Personal" and created a folder "Personal".
In this folder I have subfolder "Family" and subfolder "Friend".
This is how I set up the rule:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
through Personal account
and with Family in the sender's address
and on this machine only
move it to the Family folder

The message goes into the Personal folder instead of the Family folder.
How doe I set up a rule so that the message goes into the Family folder?
Thanks
AJS

You'll need to sort your rules accordingly and use the action "stop
processing more rules" as well to prevent that 2 rules apply and gets
duplicated.

If you are using Outlook 2007, you can directly assign a delivery folder for
each account without creating rules.
Additionally see http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/sortmail.htm

Thanks,
I still am not able to apply the rules such that they will move email from
one account to a certain folder and then filter out the senders and put
those into another folder.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks,
AJS

is it Family as in family.com? Or is it in a Family category assigned to
contacts? If its family.com, it should work if you use family in the from
field or as 'words in the header'.

You can't filter on categories assigned to contacts. It will work if you put
their contacts in a separate contacts folder and filter based on the address
book they are in (select the Family contacts folder.)

Thanks for your help.

may be this will explain better what I try to do.

In OE I had these rules:

Apply this rule after the message arrives

Where the message is from the Personal account

Move it to the Personal folder

Within the Personal folder I have sub-folders "Mr. XYZ" and "Mrs. ABC", and
to organize my Personal folder I have several other rules to direct certain
emails from the Personal folder to the sub-folders "Mr. XYZ" and "Mrs. ABC".

Here are the rules I created in OE:

Apply this rule after the message arrives

Where the From line Mr. XYZ

Move it to the Mr. XYZ folder

Apply this rule after the message arrives

Where the From line Mrs. ABC

Move it to the Mrs. ABC folder

I recently merged from OE to OL and I created these rules in OL, but all
messages from the Personal account just got directed to the Personal folder
and not further distributed to the appropriate sub-folder "Mr. XYZ" and
"Mrs. ABC".

How do I create rules in OL such that my email will get distributed to the
right sub-folder?

Thanks,

AJS

and not further distributed to the appropriate sub-folder "Mr. XYZ" and
"Mrs. ABC".

Nothing gets "further distributed". A rule, both in OE and in Outlook, moves
a message from the Inbox directly to the destination folder. It never moves
to an intermediate folder.
How do I create rules in OL such that my email will get distributed to the
right sub-folder?

The same way. Just put the "Personal Account" rule after the others and
include the "stop processing more rules" action on the leading rules.

You need to make a rule that says if mail from mrs abc arrives, move it to
the mrs abc folder.
